No one has mentioned Aunt May praying the Lord's Prayer in Spider-Man (the first one)? I'm surprised.

From Conan the Barbarian.

Conan: Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!

Hey, you stole mine!

My bad! My total bad! And I thought I did a proper search. Next time I'll just read every entry.

tongue.gif Its such a classic movie prayer that I actually think it deserves to be listed twice.

There are several in Land of Plenty

And here they are--because it's Saturday and I have nothing much to do. The letter mentioned is mostly a MacGuffin, so I don't consider it a significant spoiler.

Lana [on plane to LA]: Thank you, God. Thank You for bringing me home to my own country. It feels so remote. I've been away for so long. Thank you.

Lana [in room at mission, VO]: Mom's letter. God, help me deliver it after all these years. Help me do this for her. Help me find my uncle...wherever he is.

Lana [sitting up in bed. hums w/ song on her iPod]: "grateful to you." [laughs] You know how scared I am. I'm way out of my depths here. Yesterday I was still on the West Bank, and then...all of a sudden I'm here...in my own country, but it feels so strange. You gotta back me up on this one, God. Even if I'm wrong...I know that I need help. I know that I can't do it on my own. [thinking/VO] Do what on my own? I don't even know why I'm here in America. To deliver a letter? There must be more to it than that. It's not just for Mom. I don't have to be afraid. [whispers] I know that You're with me. I know that You're always there. With Your arms stretched out wide. Thank You, God. Thank You for this day. For this room. For my life, thank You.

There's a silent group prayer--three characters hold hands at a kitchen table. No words spoken before, during, or after.

Lana: Help us, God. Help us. Help us in our helplessness. Help my uncle in all his pain and suffering. Grant him peace.

The Mark of Zorro (1940)

0:32 - Lolita prays to the Virgin to "send some one to take me from this place...."

0:43 - Diego enters the church in the middle of Friar Felipe leading the people in prayer.

An interesting version of the Lord's Prayer at the end of Yodok Stories (doc about survivors of North Korean concentration camps - likely a festivals only film [e'g', next week in Docweek LA]). Its sung over visual of balloons being launched to send pamphlets to N. Korea. The church we see in the film is (as expected) very anti-Communist. But this version of the Lord's Prayer would resonate well with theology of Liberation folks. I guess oppression is oppression whether by the right or left.

The prayer opens: Our Father art in heaven (Are you there?) Hallowed by your name... And it ends (starting from where we would say, lead us not into temptation): Do not put us on the execution scaffold, but deliver us from prison. Father, do not go just to South Korea, please come also to Yodok. Father please come to this land.

I've been catching up on The Sopranos (the scrubbed version), and I caught this scene just a few days ago:

Carmela Soprano: Gentle and merciful Lord Jesus, I want to speak to you now with an open heart, with an honest heart. Tonight I ask you to take my sins and the sins of my family into your merciful heart. We have chosen this life in full awareness of the consequences of our sins. I know that Christopher's life is in your hands... and his fate is your will. I ask you humbly to spare him. And if it is your will to spare him, I ask that you deliver him from blindness and grant him vision. And through this vision may he see your love... and gain the strength to carry on in service to your mercy. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

From A Man for All Seasons:

More family (in unison): Dear Lord, give us rest tonight, or if we must be wakeful, cheerful, careful only for our soul's salvation, for Christ's sake. Amen.
More: And bless our lord the King.
Lady Alice, Meg: ...and bless our lord the King.
...
More (before final trial): Dear Lord Jesus, my sole Saviour, clear my wits. Dear Lady, Blessed Mother of God, comfort my wife and daughter... and forgive me for them.

Son of Rambow includes both formal and informal prayers. I didn't have a chance to transcribe them--sorry--but maybe someone else did. Loved the movie, though!

Then She Found Me has several Jewish prayers including the Shema in an important scene.

There is a nice prayer in Miracle at St. Anna that has the same prayer cut between the Buffalo Soldiers, German prisoner, and Italians. Also another occurance of the Lord's Prayer (before the massacre.)
