It is a shame that I had to go to the Chicago Reader to find a
review of this before stumbling across one at A&F. Where did all the Maddin devotees go? I do notice that there is a distinct correlation between the extended absence of the Chicago A&F contingent and updates on Maddin filmmaking.
Has anyone caught this yet?

Saw it last year at TIFF and liked it a lot; saw it again at Flickerings this year. It comes on DVD with Isabella Rossellini's new book. It's a film buff's delight--Isabella plays Hitchock, Ingrid Bergman, Selznick, Chaplin, and Fellini--but it's also quirky, beautifully expressionistic, and very touching. I had to squelch a tear both times I saw it, but that may have to do with personal reasons as much as anything innate to the film.

Yet another reason to never miss Flickerings. I hope the schedule next summer is as good as it was this year.

I saw this at Flickerings. It was delightfully odd and quite moving. You can see in the sketch where Isabella Rosselini played her mother, how much she looks like her. It's good that she's giving her dad some recognition.

Saw it when it played before The Flowers of Saint Francis at the VIFC earlier this month. Liked it a lot. And found myself wondering if my own children will remember me as "the belly" when they grow up.
