'Harry Potter 6' Moves To Summer 2009Studio boss Alan Horn cited "repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films -- changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move Half-Blood Prince to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.”

And what happens if the lava-hot franchise cools in a year? And...and...if they split "Deathly Hollows" into two films, will the series carry for another 5 or 6 years?
This is a big mistake. The studio, I think, is lying about the film's production schedule. Obviously, they are attempting to anchor in the same waters where THE DARK KNIGHT hauled its catch. I've always thought the holiday season was warmer to fantasy movies like Potter and Narnia. It especially was for The Lord of the Rings. Did the last Narnia even do well when the studio moved its release back 6 months?
The
Harry Potter films seem to gross relatively close numbers, no matter if they are released in Fall or Summer - the July opening being nothing new for this series. With the exception of the first film (
Sorcerer's Stone), which grossed $317 million, the films have maintained quite a remarkable average gross.
Chamber of Secrets opened in the Fall and grossed $262 million -
Prisoner of Azkaban was the first Summer release, and grossed $250 million.
Goblet of Fire went back to a fall release, and the gross shot back up to $290 million, which would seem to indicate that Fall was a better release time, yet
Order of the Phoenix was released in the Summer (July 11th, 07) and took in $292 million.
I'd be interested in knowing if the sales of tickets for the films has followed the same pattern as the sale of books - for example, Azkaban so far is the least popular film, did it also sell fewer books?
