Danny Boyle's Sunshine. Cuaron's Children of Men.

Any others come to mind?
Darrel Manson
28 Days Later
Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer
(Oh, did you want good movies?)

Although not quite apocalyptic, I think there is a bit of affinity for it in The Proposition and The Death of Mr. Lazarescu.

Yes, I'd thought of 28 Days Later, which of course is also from Sunshine director Boyle (and the same screenwriter).

The Proposition and The Death of Mr. Lazarescu may be closer than Fantastic Four, not just because the latter is a lousy film, but because the others share a sense of existential bleakness that of course is completely beyond the scope of FF. FF isn't really haunted by the ultimate end of everything in the way that Sunshine and Children of Men are.

(Yes, I am writing my Sunshine review Right Now.)

What do you consider recent?

Time of the Wolf (2003)
Peter T Chattaway
The upcoming Will Smith version of I Am Legend (previously filmed as The Last Man on Earth and The Omega Man).

Chuck and Larry looks an awful lot like the end of the world.

The Road is being adapted into a movie right now isnīt it? Also, the new Resident Evil movie trailer gives off a definite Mad Max vibe.

It's not recent, but Twelve Monkeys comes to mind.

Wall Street Journal article on apocalyptic cinema. (Briefly quotes me.)

Would Wall-E be considered apocalyptic? I don't know if I've seen that term used in any reviews or not.
