Tim Minnear's next show, Miracle Man, is a "love letter to the religious" (?) about a disgraced televangelist who starts performing miracles.

I posted this item yesterday in the general "new fall shows" forum, since it hasn't even been scheduled yet.

As noted there, I'm both somewhat skeptical--given the track record for this type of show in the past (Book of Daniel, anyone?)--and very surprised to learn that Tim Minear has a Christian background. I've read any number of interviews with him in connection with his work on Angel, Firefly, Drive, etc., and it never, ever, came up. Maybe there's no reason it would. OTOH, after the series of cancelled shows Minear has been involved with, maybe he's had an epiphany.

"I love the genre, and I love stories about redemption and stories about characters that are slightly cynical and nudged by higher force," Minear said.

Hmm....

More details about Miracle Man. The pilot has been bought, the lead has a tentative name but has not been cast. Tim Minear talks more about his Christian upbringing in Whittier, CA.
QUOTE
He never rejected his religious roots out of anger, he said, but slowly drifted away because "there were certain questions that I couldn't get answered to my satisfaction... I just started not to believe in anything."

Today, Minear said, he would not "categorize myself as religious," yet looks back on his pious upbringing with a sense of fondness and respect. The show, he hopes, will reflect that.

Of course, writers are still striking, so who knows when/if we'll ever see this show.
