I watched the pilot of NBC's new show, Journeyman, downloaded free on my TiVo from Amazon.com. I liked it a lot!

There was a lot to keep track of, the pilot was very complicated, with twists within turns and surprising developments, but I was able to follow it and was drawn in all along. The lead actor is engaging, as are his two (!) love interests, his wife and the fantasy woman from his past. I really like that when he had the chance to make out with his fantasy woman former fiancee he chose instead to be faithful to the woman he married. It's interesting that the woman that he married only had eyes for him all along, whereas he was blind to anyone but his fiancee. There are all sorts of good character traits there. The hints of his dead fiancee not being dead, but rather involved in something big involving time travel point to interesting plot threads for the future.

The ending was a bit quickly resolved - I expect that the second episode will have to deal with his wife's mindset picking up from where it left off - but there was so much packed in to this pilot that I'm not terribly surprised they had to end it so swiftly.

All in all, a good show. I am intrigued by the premise, and the actors pull it off well.

I just caught this -- and also liked it a lot. The "human scale" is key. However, the randomness of phenomenon seems a bit of a hurdle. I mean, how could anyone live a life when he's he's randomly popping in and out? Is that too much dramatic tension?

I loved the subtle knock on abortion, and the idea that the adventures are somehow tied to another individual's life. Terrific photography of San Francisco.

(And I have a feeling that particular scene would have led to a bit more than making out.)

And do people really leave bikes unlocked like that?

The DH and I had trouble staying awake, but we'd had long, hard days and we're old. Also, it reminded us too much of Tru Calling (without the morgue or excessive running) crossed with Quantum Leap (without gadgetry). Also, I have trouble staying interested in men without eyebrows. Maybe it will improve.

Journeyman is the show Mrs. CrimsonLine and I most look forward to seeing when it shows up in our TiVo listings. It's developing its mythology slowly, and it's a pleasure to follow. What are the "rules" for Dan's traveling? We still know very little, and I like that.

We did learn last night, though, that Dan can definitively alter the past. Up till now, I've wondered if he was changing the past, or just served as part of its natural flow. But the lawyer guy (where have I seen that actor before?) was definitively dead in the present before Dan's traveling, and he was alive in the present after Dan's intervention.

If PTC watched TV, he'd have a field day with this show... smile.gif

I'm loving this show.

I liked how in this week's episode, they resolved (at least in part) what looked like a forever plot line, the mistrust between the two brothers. Rather than let it get old and stale and oppressive, they took a different tack, and wrote apologies and forgiveness into the storyline. They drew that plot thread to a close with grace, at what I think is just the right time. Way to go, writers!

I like that Livia doesn't know the answers about who is driving their "travels." She has just learned to "go with it." Cool.

I like that the son knows (sort of) what his Dad's up to.

I like all the regular characters on this show. I can't see one weak link in the cast.

I, with you, liked the way they handled the brothers, but I think it's far from over. I think it's just the opening foray into what will be a recurring theme.
CrimsonLine
What I don't get is why they don't just TELL the brother. It's not like he's a chatty Kathy, or untrustworthy. He may not believe them, but what does that matter?

I really like Jack's doctor girlfriend. I don't know what I've seen her in before, but she's a very pleasant actress.

...because not everything Dan does is entirely lawful (but not necessarily immoral), and his brother is The Law. There's an automatic dramatic tension there.
CrimsonLine
I just watched Monday's episode. Boy, the brother-brother theme returned with a vengeance, and really seems to be gathering steam. I like how each episode stands alone, but the whole series builds on recurring plot threads.

I thought we would finally have a Livia-Kate meeting, but I'm sure that's not far off.

So Livia's warp-out color is yellow?

Next episode looks like a hum-dinger.

It's too bad it's gone. I just finished watching the last episodes.

Time travel is always a fun concept. But it always has holes. My main hole involves Livia. She was born in 1923, but certainly doesn't look 85. Of course she travels, so why should she. But she travels forward, Jack travels back. How did she manage to have an extended relationship with Jack in his past? She's also about to get married during the War, so she should be about 20 in her real time life, but she doesn't look 20 either.

Oh well, since it's not coming back, I probably shouldn't bother my pretty little head over it.

The DH and I found this show astoundingly boring, so we won't miss it at all. We're looking forward to the return of Life, which is a sort of metaphorical time-travel story. And possibly the debut of New Amsterdam, if it doesn't turn out to be a lame variation on Highlander, which I never cared for.
