Long Subject line, just to link to a great blog post. I could've put this in any number of existing threads, but couldn't decide. This post speaks to me. I feel like I'm back in film class:

[I]t doesn’t hurt, especially in this age of hype, to be a little skeptical and pursue what we think is interesting, whether or not a director has flagged it as worth noticing.

Read the whole thing.

Definitely a good read. Some interesting comments on Bazin's theories and how it pertains to Welles and film as "capturing life in front of a camera." Be interesting to get Doug C's position on this, as it more generally supports what I feel about film as a medium.
