I had the very great pleasure of attending a (preview) performance of this remarkable play, featuring Kline and Garner, not to mention Daniel Sunjata (Christian), Chris Sarandon (Comte de Guiche), and many other terrific actors.

Of course, putting words to page after seeing a play so excellent with its own words is a daunting task. So I won't be long. The performances were excellent. Kline is truly one of the great actors of this generation, but that's no surprise. I feared, going in, that KEVIN KLINE on stage would be a distraction, but his performance was so well matched to the WIT of the part and the, well, panache of the play, that he dissolved into the performance. Surely the NOSE helped, but I was greatly moved, entertained.

Perhaps the greatest shock of all: Garner can act (granted Roxanne isn't the most challenging part), but the tragic scene at the end does require a bit of nuance, and she was able to deliver. But Kline--wow.

(FWIW, I had the opportunity to see Young Frankenstein, but chose this instead. I'm glad I did.)
