This movie disturbed and shocked someone who wrote to me asking about it.

I don't have time to sit through it right now, but I wondered if any of you can shed any light on the project.

I've read a few things that say it's pretty shoddy work. Makes some bold claims, but there's not really much there.

Heh... I just read an article about the movie this past week:

QUOTE
Although films like Zeitgeist are mildly entertaining, due to their unbelievable popularity (more than 5 Million people have watched it on YouTube), they must be taken seriously. I suspect they might actually be dangerous, and therefore, as someone who does not believe in censorship it is important to make fun of Zeitgeist as the tired piece of po-faced, visually illiterate, polemically challenged, pornographic bullshit that it is.

I continue to get requests from people who want me to see this.

Most of the requests have come from parents who want to know what to tell their kids. Is this film spreading as some kind of underground phenomenon or something?

I would be most appreciative of any reviews you ( or others recommended by you) have written about the disturbing movie/documentary, "Zeitgeist".....my high school age son wanted me to watch this film.....a thoughtful, reflective Christian response would be of great help in opening up discussion. Thanks....

I don't feel qualified to be the one to review it, as I'm no expert on the conspiracy theories it illustrates.

Anybody here seen it yet?

It wouldn't surprise me. It's free online after all. If the Internet can create thousands of little Ron Paul supporters it can create thousands of little conspiracy theorists.

Sounds like you're my "intended audience", then... if i was going to make a film about conspiracy theories. Why try to slip one past people who know what they're talking about?

I hope to get a chance to watch it later this week, but knowing myself I doubt it will happen. I'm quite frankly disturbed by the fact that high schoolers are trying to get their parents to watch this, because I know exactly what that means. It means that it's a highly influential film, even though it sounds like a bunch of nonsense.

Haven't watched it, but found this "interactive transcript" on the website for Part 1, which is apparently the "debunk Christianity" part. So if you don't feel like taking the time to watch it, but just want to skim the transcript, you can get a feel for what it's about.

EDIT: Just doing a quick google search turned up a number of sites committed to challenging the claims made in the movie. Not surprisingly, it looks like massive amounts of the information contained - at least in Part 1, so I would assume in the later parts as well - appear to be made up out of whole cloth, with nothing more than co-conspirators listed as reference.

We had a troll on this site a while back who wanted to discuss the film. I actually did watch the first two parts of it.

There's a pretty thorough debunking here. Basically, what parents should tell their kids is this: "This is an anonymously made movie distributed on the Internet. Its claims about religion are based entirely on two books you've never read, by two discredited crackpots you've never heard of, discussing ancient religions you've never studied. It misrepresents Christian scripture and church history. So what exactly makes you think this film is a reliable source?"

Thanks very much, Martin. That should prove useful to the concerned, inquiring minds.

Thanks for the transcript link too, popechild. Sheesh. Now I *really* don't want to watch this film.
