Paul Scofield has died. His performance is only one reason why

Very sad news. My family is particularly enjoying his narration of The Chronicles of Narnia.

FWIW, I moved this topic to "theater" since, based on the AP article, that was his primary outlet. (I had no idea that he was the original Salieri in Amadeus.)

Gosh, I've never seen his most famous work, but he's so great in Quiz Show that I believe every accolade about him that I've ever read. And I loved him in Hytner's The Crucible.

Oh, this hurts. He's one of my all-time favorite actors, and his appearance on screen was a rare pleasure.

For anyone who hasn't lately watched A Man for All Seasons, it would make ideal Good Friday viewing.

I looked up his bio. Interesting, he was a roommate with Kingsley Amis and Philip Larkin at Oxford. I did not know he had a connection to the Angry Young Men. It makes me appreciate him all the more.
