/Film breaks this story:

QUOTE
Director Peter Weir (Master and Commander, The Last Wave) and Warner Bros. are fast-tracking an $80 million remake of Fitzcarraldo...Herzog is on board to produce the remake. No word on how Weir will tackle-slash-update the original film’s infamous and signature scenes, in which a steamboat was gruelingly pulled up and over a steep hill by natives, but it’s being reported that this version will be set 50 or so years in the future. Guess that eliminates the steamboat. Mick Jagger, who was originally supposed to star in the ‘82 film, is said to be in talks to contribute to the remake’s score.

Yeah, /film broke that story on April 1, and the comments erupted in cries of "April Fool's"! So far, I haven't seen any corroborating evidence at Hollywood Reporter or Variety. I'm not saying it *can't* be true. I'm just saying the timing is VERY suspicious. And I think it would be a shame if Day-Lewis went for playing three egomaniacal monsters in a row.

Hmmm... I just ran across it today. I hadn't noticed the date on the story. That would seem to me an odd April Fool's joke, but if it is, I'll probably delete the thread.

If it's true, I'm very excited about it.

I'm thinking of three little letters beginning with C that are not CSI.

Film is no longer Film.

I have a list of all the three letter words that begin with C that I can think of, and none of them make sense in this context.

Cinematical calls it a joke.

That means Paste fell for it, because they're reporting it today as news!

It is kind of unfortunate, as that actually sounds pretty cool: "that Daniel Day-Lewis was headlining a Peter Weir remake of Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo -- the one about a man who decides to build an opera house in the Peruvian jungle. This version, however, will be set 50 years in the future and feature a soundtrack by Mick Jagger." If it were David Bowie that would seal the deal for me.

Heh... That's where I saw it first.

You're joking, right?

Oh. How clever.

Oh... Um, can we delete threads or is that a mod-only privilege? I guess I'll leave the existence of this thread to the powers that be.
