Links to our threads on Pier Paolo Pasolini's earlier films The Gospel according to St. Matthew (1964; and its colourized version) and The Hawks and the Sparrows (1966).

Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom is coming out on Criterion on August 26.

I have heard this movie is pretty brutal and degrading, etc., but a part of me feels obliged to see it, if only because I'm a completist and I'd like to get a better understanding of how Matthew fits into Pasolini's ouevre as a whole. FWIW, I have seen pretty much everything he directed between Accattone (1961) and Oedipus Rex (1967), including most (if not all) of the short films, as well as Il Decameron (1971).
