My wife said it reminded her of Station Agent. I won't dispute that. There is a sweetness to the way we meet the various people in the film -- Antoine's family and the customers along the route. Antoine has managed to isolate himself -- even keeping some insulating distance between himself and the few friends he has. When he goes home to help with the store during his father's illness, he starts out very rough-edged, but soften as the time goes on.

I'm seeing this later this week, through FilmMovement. The reviews have been glowing, and a comparison to The Station Agent only makes me that much more excited about it.

Loved it.

I hope others get to see it soon, so we can discuss it. As movies go, it's a leisurely paced "vacation", full of memorable characters and the kinds of joys that only come with close attention to detail and personality. Anne and I both really enjoyed it.

I like the way FilmMovement picks 'em.

I saw this film at the St. Louis International Film Festival and liked it a lot. I can definitely see comparisons to the The Station Agent, as both films featured a character who runs a business from a motor cart, and both films featured a character who comes out of a self-imposed shell and softens due to developing relationships with other people. The landscape shots of the French countryside were gorgeous. The film had some nicely done humorous moments in it too.
