We have a more general sports movies list, what about the films that focus on the Olympics (or have them as a side story)

The most obvious is probably Chariots of Fire. Certainly Munich. The Riefenstahl propaganda doc.

One I saw at Palm Springs Film Festival: Children of Glory about the 1956 Hungarian revolt and the water polo match in Melbourne between Russia and Hungary - "Blood in the Water" - perhaps the most renowned water polo game ever played (can you think of another?) Joe Esterhas was one of the screenwriters.

First, a rather schmaltzy 80's flick starring gymnast Mitch Gaylord, American Anthem. Wow! Can't believe I remembered that one. Also, another 80's gem, Running Brave, starring Robbie Benson. Being a HS X-country runner I actually saw this one a few times in my youth. Oh, the days gone by!
Lance McLain
Cool Runnings, with John Candy leading the Jamaican Bobsled Team, is hardly worth a mention, however Miracle and Kurt Russell's performance as Herb Brooks coaching the U.S. Hockey team in Lake Placid Olympics certainly is.
Baal_T'shuvah
Prefontaine (1997) and Without Limits (1998), both about track star Steve Prefontaine and his quest for Olympic glory. Without Limits has a great performance by Donald Sutherland as Bill Bowerman.

Downhill Racer (1969)

If we include the Paralympics, we can add Murderball.
Rich Kennedy
Walk, Don't Run. Cary Grant is a race walker in the Tokyo Olympics in '64 distracted by a love interest.
Cutting Edge has D.B.Sweeney's broken down hockey player teaming up with a prima donna female pairs skater at the last minute before regionals for the Nationals start in preparation for some unidentified Winter Olympics.

Most of this sort of thing is pretty bad for some reason. OTOH, both Prefountaine flicks are pretty good, but I remember Pre.
