I thought Jordan stipulated that if he died his notes were to be destroyed and no one was to finish the series? Maybe that's just an urban legend. I had to stop reading these because they just went on and on with very similar plots in each novel. And I began to find his minor characters much more interesting than the main characters who seemed to get stuck developmentally in the second book. I may finish them someday if the movies don't come out first.

Jordan never stipulated that sort of thing. In fact, his wife was very much involved in finding someone who could complete the final book if he became unable to do it himself. The new writer, Brandon Sanderson, was hand selected and will use Jordan's notes to complete the series. You can read about that here.

I don't have any idea how they turn this series into movies. They will have to do some serious streamlining for it to work.

Michael, I made the same decision. After a very promisin start, Jordan just went on rambling and repeating himself, while driving his characters into the ground. I became vey cynical and saw the series as Jordan's cash cow.

I think the urban legend was that Jordan was every going to finish the series.
