THE ARTS & FAITH 100: Spiritually Significant Films
Round Two Voting: Eligible Titles

(Apr 18, 2004)

Voting is now open, and will close April 23 at midnight PDT.

First, determine how many of the following 181 nominees you have actually seen. This determines the number of votes you will be able to cast.

Second, decide how many of your votes you would like to apportion to which of the nominated films, regardless of whether you have seen the films you vote for or not. You may give from zero to five votes to any given title. (For example, if you have seen thirty of the films, you could give five votes each to six films, or one vote each to thirty films, or five each to two of your favourites and two points each to ten other films. Or...)

Third, send your ballot to me via private message, indicating;
- how many of the films you have seen
- which films you are voting for
- and how many votes you are allocating to each.

Submit your ballot carefully. The first ballot you cast will be final. Because I may receive a fairly large number of ballots, I'm not going to be able to go in and change your voting after registering it in the spreadsheet, even if you have second thoughts about which films you should have voted for.

All registered participants in the Promontory Arts & Faith Conversation are encouraged to submit their votes, regardless of whether or not they were involved in the previous round. This includes anyone who is a registered user of the Arts & Faith conversation. (Are you a registered user? If you can post a message to a thread, you are a registered user.)
This round of voting will add approximately 50 more films to our list. See "The Top 100: The First 32" for a list of the films which have already been placed on the list. For further details about this selection process, see "The Top 100: Selection Process."

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me by Private Message.

FWIW, I sent out a mass e-mail to all board users reminding them of this deadline.

Oh, and I've also got the attached MS-Excel spreadsheet that might be helpful for those still figuring out how to vote. Just use it, putting a "1" in the first column next to every movie you've seen. Then cast votes (0-5) for each movie you've seen, keeping the votes remaining 0 or higher.
Ron Reed
It was already decided, gang: the trilogies are all combined, including the Three Colours films, as is/are Dekalog. And I think it makes perfect sense to combine Manon and Jean. That only affects a couple voters: in one or two instances that results in someone now having some extra votes to cast, in which cases it's noted in the tally of voters posted above.

Thanks for sending out the email reminder, Alan - much appreciated! Definitely seems to have precipitated a new round of ballots.

How do you know your votes have been counted? Check the voter tally above: if your name's not there, I maynot have received your ballot. In such cases, feel free to re-send your list and/or temporarily post it to this thread.

Mostly, this thread isn't for discussion - normally it's locked, I just unlock it to refresh the data, which is why I've deleted a few of the preceding posts. So I encourage you to post discussion of other questions within the regular forum, but I will leave it open until midnight for anyone who wants to temporarily post their ballot here.

One other point: I've started receiving ballots where people are piling huge numbers of votes on specific films. No can do. Up to five votes per title, gang - that's all.

Having fun,

Ron

Here are the results of our Round Two voting, to select as many as fifty more films to add to the thirty-two selected by our first round panel. Thirty-five ballots were received and counted: forty-nine films received 18 votes or more, and have been added to the A&F Top 100.

The number preceding the title is the ranking of the film in the Round Two ballot: many selections were tied, receiving an equal number of votes. The number following the title represents the number of votes received by that film.
