Looking at numbers like these, how can I doubt the capacity of Americans to vote for a proper president?

Since this four-star example of a "good, clean, well-made" movie for "media-wise" viewers is #1 in America, I look forward to the inevitable discussion of its meaning, style, and substance.

do I note sarcasm? Do you think people should be seeing the Extreme Caution of Rachel Getting Married in stead?

Actually, although I haven't seen BH Chihuahua (and don't plan to) I have heard that in spite the obvious idiocy it was entertaining. And considering the horrendous financial news that pummels us daily, can you blame someone for picking something entertaining over something challenging? There are times it's just good to see something mindless. And since Palin isn't doing interviews...

The preview screening for this movie took place on the same day that Wendy and Lucy showed at the Vancouver film festival.

I saw Wendy and Lucy, but not the other film.

My colleagues quipped afterwards that the two films were basically telling the same story: a girl loses her dog.

Since I am reviewing Wendy and Lucy, I now feel obliged to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua, to check out this comparison.

I hate my colleagues.

Especially when the multiplex gives people more than two choices.

Incidentally, I appreciate the reference to "America" here, rather than "North America". Despite the IMDb's reference to "USA Box Office Estimates," the figures it reports are actually based on the "North American" totals, which is to say the combined totals for Canada and the United States. But it turns out that Beverly Hills Chihuahua, despite earning $29.3 million across the continent last week and therefore doing much better than Eagle Eye's $17.7 million, actually came in SECOND in Canada last week, earning $1.37 million and thereby coming in second to Eagle Eye's $1.61 million. Is it because we don't have as big of a Latino population? Is it because talking-animal kids' movies generally don't do that well up here? Is it because we prefer movies which imagine that the United States is being run by a giant murderous computer that got a wee bit out of control while it was in "beta-testing"? Who knows. (FWIW, the Canadian figures for THIS week are not in yet, because today is our Thanksgiving -- so I don't know yet which of those films did better this week.)
