A quick look (which means I may have missed something) shows that a couple of straight comedies made the first list (Groundhog Day, Dogma. There are still a few comedies underconsideration (many with comedic aspects, but fewer that are basically comedy) The ones I see still under debate are: Bedazzled, Life of Brian and Bruce Almighty. Of these, I look to Bedazzled as most deserving. The casting of Raquel Welch as Lust in itself is worth this being considered. I also think it's the funniest of the comedies under consideration, that should count for something.

Hmmm. I'll have to hunt this down. Personally, I am prepared to go to the mat for each of the other two. I'm not sure that Welch holds the same allure for these guys as she would for some of us who are old enough to have risked impure thoughts at all in the '60's. I find comedies of this type in this era to be a bit arch at best.

Keep in mind that just becuase the movie's characters include the devil, it doesn't mean it's any more spiritual than The Far Side (which also has the devil or devils in various cartoons).

Yes Dad.

Well, if you're going to be that way, I'm going to bed. :harumph:

(I"m up past my bedtime, anyway.)

Darrel, you are quite right about the 1967 Bedazzled, but not so much because of Raquel Welch. Why is she the only thing (or the first thing) people (should I make that male people, or would that be sexist? smile.gif ) remember about this movie? She has about two scenes and maybe two lines--as if anyone cares. tongue.gif

The two (or three) best reasons Bedazzled (1967) belongs on the Promontory 100 are:
1&2. Peter Cook & Dudley Moore in their comedy team heyday. They are brilliant.
3. The presentation of sin and of God in this movie, while not perfectly orthodox (what is?), is a whale of a lot better than that in the recent remake.

And, of course, it's funny. laugh.gif

If I were only interested in lust I'd opt for the remake and all the screen time Elizabeth Hurley gets. 8O

Cook and Moore are a wonderful pair. Some of the great bits out of it: Moore as nun continuing to try the raspberry to get out of it. (Moore as nun in itself is pretty good.) The guilt-filled tryst because both love each other and her husband so much.
