Full Version: The "Mona Lisa = Art" Cliche
Arts and Faith > Art & Media > Visual Art, Architecture, and Design
Alan Thomas
OK, here's an interesting list to fill out: List films, TV shows, plays and other works where the "real" Mona Lisa shows up as The Painting representing wealth, power, "art", etc.

Here's a start:

  • Movie: Walt Disney's Pinocchio (Lampwick lights a match against it) link
  • Play: Annie (Daddy Warbucks is presented the ML for purchase)
  • TV Show: Heroes (The "flash" woman has stolen it and stashed it in her apartment)
  • Movie: The Freshman
  • Movie: Dr. No

Where else is this used (and arguably now cliche)? (I have to credit Children of Men for NOT having ML in the art collection.)

Note: I'm not looking for variations or derivative works, cartoons, mugs, shower curtains, etc., but rather scenes or other presentations of the "actual" Mona Lisa showing up in places outside the Louvre.

Equilibrium. It even shows it being burned.
