Miriam Makeba- "Mama Afrika" - has died of an apparent heart attack, after collapsing at a concert in Italy. I only became aware of Miriam Makeba from the 1987 Paul Simon concert "Graceland: The African Concert Live in Zimbabwe". After hearing her, I bought a few CD's, including "An Evening with Belefonte/Makeba", from 1965. This lady had a remarkable voice, rich in texture. Her rendition of "N'Kosi Sikeleli Africa" (God Bless Africa) from the Graceland concert is unforgettable.
