Not finding a thread on this one, I believe the book is from 2006.

Well I'm just getting around to it and I'm about 80 pages in and have to say, this guy has had an incredible life. Actually, it seems that he's made an incredible life. And instead of complaining about the kind of Christianity he's been bored with and forced to encounter, he's living a Christianity that is changing everything, at least for him. It is alive, it lives with the poor and oppressed, from inner-city Philadelphia to hanging out with Mother Teresa.

I hear he's also gone to Iraq to be with those who are being bombed. Hope that's in the next few hundred pages.

Great story so far.

nice coincidence, Stef, I'm also reading it right now. After letting it sit around for almost a year and my brother asking if I ever finished it so he can get it back.

I'm almost halfway through. He gives a lot to ponder, but if part of his intent for writing was to have the reader re-examine his own priorities and values, then he's certainly succeeded with me.

I first caught him at Greenbelt c.2003 and he was certainly one of the highlights. Ditto when he returned in 2006 (I think).

He is a cool guy. No doubt.

The documentary that was just done in conjunction with the Vote for Jesus book is worth picking up. Plus, it supports their community.

This is a fine book. I think I first read it about thirty-five years ago. Oh yeah, I basically did.

That's not meant to take anything away from Shane. It's just interesting to me how new generations pick up on and repackage the basic notions of how radical the gospel is. But this is Jesus Freak 101, and some of us remember these messages from the days of Larry Norman and Ron Sider and Calvary Chapel.

They're good messages. They're worth remembering, and attempting to emulate. But I find it mildly amusing that the kids think they've stumbled upon something new.

And it is startling how often that happens with zero reference to the previous generation's literature. FWIW, Shane et al. do feature Sider and Wallis pretty heavily in their documentary.
