Full Version: Top100 Announcement
Arts and Faith > Art & Media > Film > Film Awards, Festivals, and Lists > The Top100
Alan Thomas
I'm shooting for the Top100 to be officially 'released' this Friday, June 4th.

SO, if any of you have a publication date on or after June 4th, please feel free to work with the Top100. The official announcement is here, but may be revised in the next few days (input is welcome).

Please let me know if there are any questions or clarifications needed to support any publicity efforts.

AND, please post any articles or mention of the top100 in this thread.

As of now, the artsandfaith.com/top100 URL is accessible to non-registered guests.

(This should also serve as a reminder for anyone who wants to submit capsules or review links -- please try to get them to me ASAP.)
Alan Thomas
Please note that the press release has been send to major Christian and mainstream press outlets, ranging from Relevant to Reuters.

Please let me know if you see any coverage of the top100.

Thanks, Alan. It's a Herculean effort you've put into this thing (well, you and Ron), and I'm going to do all I can to take the credit for it. wink.gif
Alan Thomas
Pssh. Ron. Of course, you should get most of the credit, Jeff. Actually, I think we should rename the board "RonAndFilm.com"
Alan Thomas
The Top100 was mentioned on a VH1 website, of all places...is "DLR" a user on this website? Mixed discussion (why didn't we put Weekend at Bernie's on the list?)

Other appearances:Any other sightings of note?
Darrel Manson
So are you going to add Weekend at Bernies to the what did we miss thread?

Maybe part 2 wink.gif
Overstreet
Well, it would have been in the Film Forum at CT too if I hadn't made a spectacular show of forgetfulness.

But actually, I think I can get it to run as a news story at CT, so I'll look into that.
Darrel Manson
Do you think they'll care that we didn't clear it with Dr. Baehr? Has Movieguide made any mention of it? (Just being catty.)
Overstreet
I love the feedback at the VH1 page. Somebody actually said we should have included "Medicine Man" and "Legends of the Fall." laugh.gif

Now, be nice. We're on the receiving end from lots of people who are amazed that American Beauty and Fight Club are on the list.

The thing about lists is it will be very rare for people to say. Yup, that's my list too. The only people who want to speak up are those who disagree.

I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. On the various forums linked above, there are lots of defenders or folks who simply link to the Top100 and say they're impressed. But you're right, most folks (including most of us) would still nit-pick about a film here or there.

I think the existence of defenders reflects the fact that the Top100 really is ground-breaking if regarded as a "Christian" list, since most such lists tend to be neither as deep nor as broad.
DanBuck
Ah yes, your second paragraph reflects a siginifcant portion of the response I saw as well. My comment was more about human nature. The first thing I do when I se a list is look for a few key films, then huff if they're not there.
Alan Thomas
And now an article at Christianity Today Movies!

(although I'm unsure about the "Movies Every Christian Should See" title -- are Breaking the Waves, Bad Leiutenant, and The Last Temptation of Christ for everyone????)

[*]Josh mentions it on his Rebel Base Phorum (thanks, Josh--tell them to get involved and vote next year!) Thanks for sticking up for the foreign titles, Bethany.

No problem. smile.gif I would have voted if I'd been aware of it prior to the list being released.

Well, you'll be able to vote next year!

(And I probably am going to publish an English-language index as a link from the list, too, since several folks have said "where's 'that film'?" when it's on the list.)
Alan Thomas
Some lame whacko went and posted it at danielamos.com. What a jerk.
Josh Hurst
I posted a link at my site.

Regarding one of the posts at the Daniel Amos forum: 'The Quarrel' sounds like a potentially interesting and worthwhile film. Has anyone here seen it?

I put it on my list in this thread (and that's probably the best place to discuss it...)
Andrew
Thanks for the tip, Alan...I'll post over there, then.

Thread at DVDTalk that I created.

I did like this one comment:

I came in here prepared to crap all over this thread and the schmucks who compiled the list because they failed to include Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker. But then to my shocked surprise it's on there.

Two big thumbs up to this list.

Although no Winter Light is a big problem.

Thanks for the publicity, Clint; I can appreciate that comment to.

If you could please do me a favor and remove the list from your initial post and link to it instead, I'd very much appreciate it. The list is copyrighted and I don't want copies just floating out there. Thanks.

Fixed it. Replaced the Christianity Today article link with a link to the presentation on the board.

A thread about the Top 100 has popped up at the forum at Over the Rhine's site...along with a little talk about Jeffrey and Peter. smile.gif

The link you gave for my site is temporary. The permalink is:

I'll probably write more about the list soon.

Cheers!

Alan Thomas
Thanks, Jeff -- I'll update the link.

Posted a link on my web site here, and a topic on the Hatrack boards here.
schilleriana
the list was mentioned on Crosswalk's movie forum awhile back.
Alan Thomas
FWIW, I've added the Top100 to the Yahoo! Movies site here--minues the few films that weren't available in their database (such as Jesus of Nazareth, The Miracle Maker, and Au Hasard Balthazar).
Alan Thomas
This is my kind of library! (I sent them a note to (1) add the copyright statement and (2) let them know about the updated list.)

DIGG the Top100. Please.
