| Wouldn't it make more sense to point out "A full-screen version also will be available on DVD"? |

Sadly, many full screen releases are still outselling their widescreen counterparts. |

| So what's everyones' take on this new(ish) trend of releasing a DVD but, at the same press conference, announcing a forthcoming ultimate edition? In the past, what's tended to happen is that the first one would come out and then there would be a second appearence by surprise (and coupled with a lot of anger) Now, since Lord of the Rings it's become common-place to make future plans known whilst still giving folks the option to own the movie early. Personally, I quite like it and it defeats that old standby "why didn't they tell us they were releasing another version?" The only proviso being that it means, implicitly, that the first version to be released won't receive nearly so much attention from the film-makers. |

| Well, that's very good news! And certainly a big change from, like, only a year or so ago. Which does make the original question all the more pertinent: why are there still so many full screen releases in the US? Even if they're not outselling widescreen, does that mean they're still selling *enough* to still warrant their existance? Phil. |
