Is anyone familiar with this film festival? I'm thinking of taking either Thurs or Fri as a vacation day, once I see the film schedule (I believe it's going to be decided in early September -- here's the cleverly-named official website). If any of you other Southerners are planning to go, I'd love to meet up and maybe take in a movie or two together.

Sorry, didn't see this post until now. I had a chance to see some of the short films. Happened to be in Asheville for our anniversary trip. My wife wanted to go to the spa for the day so it made for a convenient excuse for me to take in some of the Film Festival. "Redemption" (Not the Jamie Fox HBO movie) was the only one that stood out to me. It's apparently set somewhere in Europe (based on the accents) and looked to be shot on high-def. It's about a man on death row who meets with the priest before his execution. The performances were great and as was the camera work. My only gripe is that the movies were all projected from DVDs not film. (Seems to be the norm now.)

Welcome, Backrow Baptist!

Alas, I didn't make it to the festival; maybe next year...

So Backrow, Are you from around there? Though I live in Detroit, my folks live in Waynesville, one county west on I-40. Went to high school there too, so Asheville is a second home. Welcome, by the way.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I just happened to be in Asheville for my 4th anniversary with my lovely wife. I'm actually from Athens, Ga. We used to have the Kudzu Film Festival but it died out apparently from lack of support, believe it or not. The Asheville Film Festival was a pleasant surpise. I forgot to add earlier that they did have plenty of features. "I am David", "Kinsey", and some gory vampire movie were also playing but I didn't have the chance to catch them. Asheville reminded me of Athens somewhat. It seemed to have that small town with a strong arts community thing going for it.
