Well, Peter, Ron, whaddaya think? And with that, I'm off to Santa Fe to celebrate the 8th anniversary of my marriage to Anne. Have a good week, everyone. I may check in later this week when Anne inevitably discovers a great new book, like she always does on our vacations.

Hmmm, I've seen all of the Top 22 films except for Dead Ringers (#6, 1988), Les Ordres (#7, 1974), Les Bons Débarras (#7, 1980), Wavelength (#12, 1967), Calendar (#16, 1993), Pour la suite du monde (#16, 1963) and Thirty-Two Short Films about Glenn Gould (#19, 1994). So, I've seen about two-thirds of this year's list.
I note that the 1993 Top 10 list, in addition to Les Bons Débarras (#5, 1980) and Les Ordres (#6, 1974), also includes I've Heard the Mermaids Singing (#9, 1987), which I have also never seen.
And the 1984 Top 10 list includes six films that I have not seen -- Les Bons Débarras (#3, 1980) and Les Ordres (#5, 1974) again, but also J.A. Martin, photographe (#7, 1977), Pour la suite du monde (#7, 1963), Nobody Waved Good-Bye (#9, 1964) and La Vraie Nature de Bernadette (#9, 1972).
Apparently Mon oncle Antoine (1971) has topped all three lists, and having seen this film just once, I have to say I'm not quite sure what the appeal is.
I'm mildly surprised that the Paul Anka documentary Lonely Boy (1961) is NOT on this list, since it was shown in several film classes I took, as a key example of Canada's contribution to cinema verité.

I just saw Spider yesterday. A British film made by Canadians. But very good. A bout of insomnia found me doublespeeding through it again to work out the real story.
Couldn't find another thread on it, but the search waters were rather muddied by Spider-man. Grr

You must see this one -- I loved it; wickedly funny, perceptive. Great discussion film.
It's very easy to rent in the U.S.

TIFF organizers have released
their list for 2006 (as opposed to the all-time lists Jeffrey linked to above). All ten films will be shown at the
Cinematheque Ontario January 26 - February 3, and a publicist at the
Pacific Cinematheque tells me they will be shown there, too, February 22 - 28.
FWIW,
I have seen exactly half of this year's list -- two in regular release and three at the Vancouver festival (although I believe at least two of the festival films have since been released to regular theatres here, too) -- and
Variety notes that, while this list DOES include lowbrow box-office successes like
Trailer Park Boys: The Movie, it does NOT include the all-time home-grown box-office champ,
Bon Cop, Bad Cop, which also came out this year.
