I’m a De Palma fan, and I liked Carlito’s Way, but I don’t think I’ll like this planned prequel! From Roger Friedman’s column at Fox News:
--------------------------------------------
Puffy's Next Movie: 'Carlito II'
Sean Combs — aka P. Diddy — is about to make his next foray into films.
I hear he's made a deal to star in the prequel to "Carlito's Way," the 1993 Brian De Palma classic that starred Sean Penn and Al Pacino.
The new movie, "Carlito's Way: The Beginning," will begin production shortly and will be written and directed by Michael S. Bregman, son of producer Martin Bregman.
Bregman told me recently, "I think this one is going to be better than the first one."

"Carlito's Way" is a cult classic in the hip-hop scene. That film and "Scarface" (the 1983 version) are oft quoted like Bible Scriptures in rap songs. That would explain the prequel as well as P-Diddy's involvement.

Really? I had no idea, Utz! Tell me more. Which lines are favorites in the hip-hop community?

I've heard quite a few "Carlito's Way" references in Terror Squad and Jay-Z records.
