MY Exploring Films kids want to have a movie myth day where we look at examples of movie myths. I'm looking for stuff you can actually see, not just interesting stories, or "the phone number listed on this produce truck is actually the director's IQ". Here are some examples, but I need more.
The Wizard of Oz - The midget hanging himself- yes, I know what it really is, but its fun to show it anyway.
Three Men and a Baby - The "young host" dressed in a tux in the background of one scene. I know what it really is.
Ben-Hur - I need help here. In the chariot race, you an apparently see a dead man being dragged from a chariot. I think he died in the making, and you can see his corpse? True? Where?
Others?

A cloud of dust which Simba blows up when he sighs in The Lion King says 'SEX'. Actually, it says 'SFX' and (although I don't have it) I believe even this has been taken out of the DVD version so you might not be able to check this one out.
And, of course, there's the Stormtrooper who bangs his head walking into a room in the Death Star in Star Wars
There's some of the more general ones. A personal bugbear of mine is the theory that in battles the good guys always move from right to left and the bad guys from left to right. This is, needless to say, utter hokum (You only have to go back as far as The Two Towers to start finding counter examples) but I'm always surprised how many film studies students bring this up. It is interesting to throw it in and see how many examples can be found to prove/disprove it.

Imdb says its false, but I can't give you any more than that I'm afraid!

3 men and a baby instantly comes to mind because it is the one that scarred my childish brain when I first saw the film. The "ghost" behind the curtain in one of the scenes.
Oh there's millions. In fact I'm sure there's a website dedicated to this.
*goes to check*
Dissapointingly nothing comes up straight away, but I shall have a thorough rumage at a later time because I can remember one that was particularly good.
For Hollywood myths (as oppossed to film myths) it's worthwhile checking out Hollywood Babylon by Kenneth Anger. It's chocca full of gossip and makes for a fabulous read.

In
Aladdin, Aladdin apparently says "Good teenagers take off their clothes" when he's trying to fend off Jasmine's tiger, Rajah.
There's actually some decent-sized lists of Disney-related rumors and myths
here and
here.

I don't know if this exactly qualifies, but here goes. In Blade Runner, when we first see Rutger Hauer's Roy Batty character he's in a phonebooth. It's a medium shot, from the shoulders up. There is someone's thumb on his shoulder (left side of the screen), although in the next shot he is obviously alone in the booth. It turns out this is a reverse framed shot used later in the film when Roy confronts Tyrell and says the line, " Nothing that the gods of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for? The thumb is Tyrell's (this time appearing on the right side of the screen).
