I'll just say that at this early point in the year, Frantz is my film to beat. The playing around between B&W and color was effective. I see why this won Cesar for Cinematography. The story is really well done and brings us questions of truth and lies in a wonderful way.
  14. One slot available if you want in go to https://yho.com/mlb?l=12041&k=30af1e9f822526ad&soc_trk=lnk&ikey=9be8a85fac369e8d
  15. Frantz - 15 September - the big reveal that happens about 1/2 way through (c. 0:50)
  16. Before I Fall - takes place (over and over) on Feb 12 and 13. The date comes up on Sam's phone often throughout the movie at 6:30 am Feb 12, and 12:38,39 Feb 13
  17. Life Feels Good: June 4: TV news report on elections in Poland (in the chapter entitled "Wizard" Aug. 11 - near the end.
  18. A couple from Oscar nominated shorts: Pear Cider and Cigarettes (animated short) - early on it shows a date on screen (perhaps a chapter title) April 17. (Ron, the guys from Vancouver, you can get this from him, right?) Timecode (live action) - involves a bunch of security cameras with time codes (and imputs of dates into the computer to see film from those camera.). starts with 5/14/16, also 5/15, 5/16, 5/30
  19. Arrival is a better version of The Day the Earth Stood Still (and I liked the original Day)
  20. Secret of the Kells is a better version of Moana.
  21. Winter Sleep - Feb 4. Ron, I think you're going to like this one. at about the 160 minute mark, there is a scene with a calendar in the background showing the months of Ocak and Subat. Subat 4 has a red box around it. (there is, btw another one page/day calendar in the room that confirms it is the 4th of Subat.) Now one could search on line for the Turkish name of months, but if you pay attention you will note that Ocak has 31 days, and Subat has 28. Ergo...
  22. From Loving: When they are charged with their crime it states the date they were married is June 2, 1958. There is also a shot of the marriage license, but I think the date is too small to be useful. From Miss Sloane: The date of the opening Senate committee hearing is shown onscreen as April 18. During the questioning the Senator refers to her actions on Oct. 12. The final hearing is April 28.
  23. Elle - Michele gets a text on her phone that shows a date 15 December (except it's in French)
