  1. This sounds like a similar conference that some of you might be interested in: ETHOS: a Dialogue on Faith and Culture March 30-31, 2006 Colorado Christian University ETHOS brings creative Christians together to explore ways of engaging popular culture and the media. We will explore ways in which Christians can become involved, renewing agents in their world. For more information, go to www.ccu.edu/ethos
  2. Considering how long they always take between releases and considering that Don has a solo album coming out in April/May I'm not expecting a new studio album until the end of this year or early next year, maybe late fall 2006 at the earliest. Actually, I don't remember anyone from badman or the band ever mentioning that they would have a new studio album out this year. I think word about a new album has so far only been hope and speculation on the part of some fans. The only thing official I've seen is that they are in the studio.

The 16HP Live DVD set will be released in the U.S. in the spring by Alternative Tentacles. The release date is currently set for April 25, 2006 but these things can sometimes change.
  4. Badman update: * This quote came from a Nov 2004 episode of NPR's All Songs Considered in which Sufjan chose "The Lakes Of Canada" as the perfect song.
  5. Listening to the Fahey tribute plus: Ester Drang - Rocinate Various - See You On The Moon I haven't listened to these two enough to have an opinion yet but I really like the Fahey tribute. I don't have any specific info on when their full-length will be released (it just says 2006 Asthmatic Kitty), but I'm really enjoying the songs that My Brightest Diamond has up on their myspace page.
  6. Allmusic CMJ Insound New Music Tipsheet
  7. In this recent interview, Rosie mentions a couple of interesting side projects that she is working on. Actually, I can't quite tell if this is going to be the same project or two separate projects:
  8. Don & Karen Peris are listed as guest musicians on Mila Drumke's upcoming release Radiate. They also were guests on her 1997 album Illinois.
  9. Sufjan Stevens on CCM and Christianity (from Plan B Magazine):
  10. New Leigh Nash Christmas song courtesy of Nettwerk: The First Noel Did anyone happen to capture the first batch of songs that she had up on her myspace page (Ocean Size Love / Wasn't It Good / More Of It / Nervous In The Light Of Dawn)? I forgot to grab them while they were up and now they're gone.
  11. Badman Recording Co news: Insound has Don's as-yet-untitled album listed for release on 04/25/06.
  12. The only CD that I own that has the Sony copy protection software (Sarah McLachlan's Bloom, remix album) was unfortunately not on the list of CDs that could be traded in for a replacement. Apparently there is a second type of copy protection software (Media Max) that is on some Sony CDs. While they are not yet offering free replacements, they are now acknowledging that the Media Max software is also problematic.
  13. How about this quote from a recent article in Pitchfork (of all places)?

More info about the 16HP Live DVD A U.S. release for the DVD has not yet been determined but I am told that the Glitterhouse version is region-free so if you are in the U.S. and you want it now you can get it here. Also, 16HP's 2001 live album Hoarse will be reissued by Alternative Tentacles in the U.S. on Jan 11, 2006. The last remaining copies of the original U.S. release of Hoarse by (the now defunct label) Checkered Past are available at Paste Music.
  15. From what I have heard, Don is recording another solo album. So that is another possible explanation for the hint of more than one upcoming release.
  16. Noted Authors Steve Turner & Terry Mattingly To Be Honored At Ceremonies
  17. I'm not at all familiar with Fahey's work but so far I'm liking this tribute a lot, especially Calexico and Sufjan's tracks. Some info about this tribute as well as a clip of Sufjan's track are here.
  18. I don't think anyone has yet mentioned Julie Miller's debut Meet Julie Miller with such gems as "Song To The Devil" and "My Psychiatrist." During that time she was referred to as the Cyndi Lauper of CCM, although she has (as most of you already know) gone on to produce some decent albums.

The 16 Horsepower live 2-DVD set will be released by Glitterhouse on December 2. More details soon. In the meantime, you can view the artwork here.
  21. Good conference. I found out about this conference on this forum and would not have heard about it otherwise. Considering how close I live to Messiah I would have been upset if I had missed out on this.
  22. I never said, "I'm not blown away by this song because it's about ghosts and Elvis." I'm just not impressed with the song as a whole, but over time it may grow on me. (Pardon my ignorance, but who is Rosebud?)
  23. The King of the Mountain video is now up on her site. I'm not blown away by this song but I'm still really looking forward to this album.
  24. Yeah, it didn't make sense to me to write about the Searching For The Wrong-Eyed Jesus Music soundtrack in the Film forum. I don't read the Film forum and only wanted to discuss the Music so logically I thought it would be acceptable to start a thread about the Music in the Music forum. There is a lot of crossover with films like Searching.. where the music is an integral part of the film so I guess it's a bit of a gray area.

This is a reply to this message. Since that thread is now locked I thought I would reply here. I hope that is okay with TPTB. You may also want to check out the latest Bloodshot Records compilation For A Decade Of Sin. I've only listened to the first couple of tracks so far but it is in the same vein as the Searching For The Wrong-Eyed Jesus soundtrack. This compilation includes a track from 16 Horsepower titled De-Railed. The release date for this 2-disc set is October 25. Yes, a 16 Horsepower live DVD is in the works. The band doesn't like details to be announced until they are pretty much set in stone so that's all I can say about it for now.
