Kids Show Host Caught in a "Scandal"

Recommended Posts

About the only TV show my 21-month old daughter or three-year old son watch regularly is the Good Night Show on the Sprout Channel (PBS). Part of our wind-down routine includes the 7:30-8:00pm line-up, featuring such gems as Thomas the Train, the Berenstein Bears and, my personal favorite, Pingu (an absurd foreign short involving a claymation penguin which, like Monty Python, becomes notably more profound for me after a big glass of wine). The kids love the shows, but they really watch to see Melanie, the cute gal who hosts the evening program. Honestly, I dont understand the kids' attraction to this lady-- her delivery reminds me of an exagerated Fred Rogers on helium-- but they are mesmerized by her.

So imagine my shock to read this today.

No, it's not porn... but I suppose it is a tad "adult". But should someone really be fired over this kind of thing? George Carlin narrates some episodes of Thomas for corns sake, airing during the very same Good Night Show in question. Double standard?

My wife also reminded me that Christopher Meloni of Law & Order SVU, currently has a children's storytime segment on Noggin. Which isnt SO shocking... but then he also played a rather deranged homosexual prisoner on HBO's OZ a few years back, in which he displayed a considerable amount of full frontal nudity. 8O

Another kids show host with a rather sordid past-- Denny Doherty, of the Mamas and the Papas fame, on Theodore Tugboat.

This is a friggin' witch hunt, folks!IPB Image

The "offensive" video in question.

So i guess a male actor can perform in a role where his genitals are exposed and still read bedtime stories to kids on Noggin... but a female actor merely says the word "anal" in a satirical amateur video and she is no longer fit to be a role model for children.
