The best speeches/lectures ever (political, arts-oriented, religious...)

Recommended Posts

This just occurred to me.

We need a thread for people to link to the most inspiring SPEECHES, LECTURES, PUBLIC ADDRESSES, etc.

I remember sending Bono's speech to the President's prayer gathering last year, and so many people were inspired by that video/transcript.

So I'm wondering: If you were asked to share a great speech, which one would you look up and read aloud? Which speeches (graduation addresses, lectures, campaign speeches, whatever) send chills down your spine?

If you were going to challenge your friends, church, community... or us... what would you read?

Link to the text or the recording, if you can find it.

P.S.  I COULD BE WRONG.

An obvious choice, but it definitely gives me chills and/or makes me cry every time I hear the most famous part of it:

Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech the night before he died. "I've been to the mountaintop..."

"What matters are movies, not awards; experiences, not celebrations; the subjective power of individual critical points of view, not the declamatory compromises of consensus." - Richard Brody, "Godard's Surprise Win Is a Victory for Independent Cinema," The New Yorker
