Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal

Recommended Posts

I just started this book by Christopher Moore recently and have only made it through a few chapters. I have to say I was intrigued by the title, and was curious if it would be mocking and offending.

On the contrary I find it witty and hilarious.

If you're not familiar with the book, it is the story of Christ's childhood years, told from the perspective of his best friend.

Just wondering if there has been any discussion on this board regarding this book, or if any of you has read it.

This reminds me a little of a funny song called Jesus' Brother Bob from a Canadian folk group called The Arrogant Worms.

One verse includes

I have to pay the ferry to cross the Galilee

But not my brother, no not him, he walks across for free

I finally get to work 'bout a quarter after nine

Already he's turning water into wine

"Could we ever know each other in the slightest without the arts?"

« Nous connaîtrions-nous seulement un peu nous-mêmes, sans les arts? »

Quoted on Canada's $20 bill; from Gabrielle Roy's novel La montagne secrète. The English translation, The Hidden Mountain, is by Harry L. Binsse.

"Sympathy must precede belligerence. First I must understand the other, as it were, from the inside; then I can critique it from the outside. So many people skip right to the latter." -- Steven D. Greydanus
