M. Leary
This is the only show I try to watch regularly on TV. I don't know anything about who produces it or anything, but it a fantastic hour of film. There is a lot of controversy right now about violence, pornography, and language in the media and The Shield sometimes tries to cross some of these lines. But over all, it is great drama. Am I out to lunch on this? Anyone else watch this? Quote "...the vivid crossing of borders between film and theology may save the film from the banality of cinema and festival business, and it may also save the church from the deep sleep of the habitual and the always known." Chadb
I'm a little late replying to this (I've been offline with computer problems for over a month), but I think The Shield is the best thing on television right now (although I do enjoy Deadwood quite a bit as well). The fact that they are able to juggle so many characters and storylines week in and week out is amazing. Quote Stealing! How could you? Haven't you learned anything from that guy who gives those sermons at church? Captain whats-his-name. - Homer
J. Henry Waugh
The Shield is available for streaming with an Amazon Prime membership. I wanted to watch this during its run, but didn't have FX at the time. Any fans? Will it be too dated?
Tyler
I know I've seen more disturbing things--I just finished watching all of Oz, for one--but Wagenbach strangling the stray cat got to me in a way most things just don't. I think it's because the motivation for the violence was so different from what we usually see. He just wants to understand the world, but in some of its darkest corners, understanding can require transgression.
