Yeah, that was the main thing holding me back from guessing that, too.

Not to set a precedent for second-guessing each other's haiku, but it occurs to me that the "smallest / farthest" parallelism could be continued with something like To fight the darkest.

Short bald guy. Thin guy.

Waiter. And people think that

this is a movie?

"Look upon me! I'll

show you the life of the mind!"

And then a bird dies.

Man lies in a grave.

Then we switch to video

and jazz music plays.

"Boy, the food at this

place is really terrible."

"And such small portions!"

"Did you drive that thing

all the way here to see me?"

"I did." And they sit.

Big Night

No, but BN works surprisingly well. (The first half of the haiku, anyway.)

Yep.

People will argue that the second half fits, too. I wouldn't be one of them, but in the absence of a specific critical opinion of the film it's a plausible candidate.

That's not The Great Muppet Caper is it?

I suppose, but the second half of the haiku absolutely fits the film I'm thinking of (even though I don't believe it myself).

Barton Fink

Yep.

That's not The Great Muppet Caper is it?

I do vaguely remember that joke (or a similar one) being used in one of the Muppet films, but it was more important to the film I'm thinking of.

Barton.

Taste of Cherry.

Annie Hall.

Three for three.

I can't imagine why no one's gotten the first; I thought it was the easiest of the lot.

This one is way too easy if you've read this board for any length of time.

The light is going

from our star and this story.

Wish it was a doll.

*edit because I can't count apparently.

Bubba Ho-Tep. And I've never even seen it.

Rent it for kicks.

Yep.

See, I thought of that, but the part on the bed I remembered was the lying down under the covers ...

Hm. I would say the last line can only refer to Pleasantville, of course, but I'm not scanning the first two lines...

Oh, okay, it IS Sunshine. The doll thing was throwing me... I've been on the board TOO long.

Film director knows

Thirteen's the magic number

For rising actor.

Stuffy curmudgeon

Creates thoughts of suicide

In decent man's mind.

Six colorful guys.

In the trunk, a big surprise.

Helluva debut.
