I'm with you on your second point. Is Overture finished or still in progress, or does it even have an end? I've never been able to read comics on an issue to issue basis and usually have to wait until a run is over...

I'm currently right in the middle of Mind MGMT by Matt Kindt and I'm really loving it. Its plot is unfolding with expert pacing.

The Sandman Overture has been completed and collected into a single volume.

Generally, I don't have the patience for collecting individual issues, though two ongoing series gave me hooked. The first is The Fade Out, Brubaker's excellent noir series. The second is Warren Ellis' Vargr.
