Top 25 2011: Horror Films: Nomination (Closed) and Discussion

Recommended Posts

Is this the place to discuss how we are defining "Horror"? (I know there has been some discussion elsewhere about Thriller/Horror; will that discussion continue here or can we link to it?)

If films like Vertigo are going to get seconded, I guess it's all going to have to come down to the vote. I will only give Vertigo a ONE on a horror vote.

Yeah, me too. And VERTIGO is my favorite film of all time.

I second this, but somebody better second REPULSION and THE TENANT, because they're much better than this one.

I haven't seen them, unfortunately. Is THE TENANT that easy to get ahold of?

I didn't really participate in the Top 100 this year so I'm unfamiliar with the rules. Can someone start a thread with the rules? I tried digging around, to no avail. With this being a 2011 list, are 2009 films allowed? If so, I nominate:

Title: Antichrist (2009)

Director: Lars Von Trier

Running time: 108 min

Netflix carries it, I believe, and used copies can be purchased for fairly affordable sums.

There's the rub. Canadian Netflix is still extremely anemic. Ah well, I'll find a way.

With this being a 2011 list, are 2009 films allowed?

Greg's opening post indicates we're using the same rules as for the 2011 Top 100, which would mean anything from 2008 onwards after Dec. 31, 2008 is ineligible. Full rules here.

Thanks for the link NWD. The cut off date is a shame methinks, but I'm sure that's been much debated already.

Oh, you simply must remedy this. These flicks are dynamite. (Stef will tell you otherwise, but he's crazy.)

I'm ready to give them another try soon. Even if I change my mind, though, it won't make me any less crazy. :)

I thought about this but didn't think I'd find any support for it.

Second!

Huh, Now I'm not sure we can nominate Antichrist. We'll have to look closely at that date... I wonder if the festival circuit can save it?

Seconds all around.

(Somebody needs to second the classic James Whale FRANKENSTEIN which I nominated. No way, no how that we can't at least have that in the pool of nominees for our list.)

Second all of these, although calling Hanging Rock horror is a bit of a reach to me.

Second all of these, although calling Hanging Rock horror is a bit of a reach to me.

I know of few movies that are quite as unsettling. If something like THE TENANT can be up for this gig, and I think it very much can be, then PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK should be.

I must say that I question the placement of something like BEETLEJUICE. Fun flick. Not my idea of a horror film, though.
