Top 25 Horror Films: Poll Closed

Recommended Posts

All right, now that you've perused the winning Top100 list, are you ready to do it all over again?

Click here for the Top 20 Horror Films poll. We will close the poll on Monday the 17th Monday the 24th at 11:59pm, and tabulate as quickly as we can. I'm sorry we can't offer more time - we want to make sure the lists are released at the same time, before the Oscars. Next time we do a Top 20 we'll start it earlier.

Reminder: We will be featuring 2-3 sentence blurbs instead of 2-3 paragraph blurbs for the Top 20, and we want to reveal the entire suite of Top Films pages on February 1, so be ready to volunteer for a few sentences on your favorite horror films!

Rules:

1) You must fill out your A&F username to begin the poll.

2) Rate each film from 1 to 5, 5 being the highest.

3) There are twenty films on each page. You CAN go backward to change a film's rating while the poll is still unfinished. Once you finish or exit the poll, you cannot change any votes.

4) Your vote will be weighted according to post count, similarly to last year's weighting.

5) You do not have to vote for a film. Your non-vote will be considered a "Haven't Seen It."

Weighting:

· 0- 500 posts will receive a weight of 1

· 500-1000 posts will receive a weight of 2

· 1000-2000 posts will receive a weight of 3

· 2000-3000 will receive a weight of 4

· 3000+ posts will receive a weight of 5

If we've missed a film, or if something goes wrong, please PM me.

Anna, could you post a final list of the nominees here? I'd like to try and catch a few more before the voting is closed.

I'm new to the voting process. Are we rating the films on their overall quality, or relevance to the list?

Both. The higher you rank it, the likelier it is to appear on the list. So obviously quality matters, as does relevance to the list.

Note that a ranking of 1 (or 2?) actively harms a film's chances of making the list, where a non-vote is neutral.

Monday the 17th at midnight

Just to double check: Does this mean midnight Sunday/Monday or midnight Monday/Tuesday?

Ack, didn't we learn from last time? Never do anything at "midnight." Midnight is fatally ambiguous. Use 11:59pm or 12:01am.

I voted! I feel liberated. Especially because I've seen relatively few of the films we nominated. I'm a little shocked by that, but it is what it is. There was no way I was going to "catch up" before the deadline, so I voted on the films I'd seen.

I was surprised to see several titles we've debated, and which Scott had argued against, on the final list.

There are several nominees that don't, in my estimation, fit as "horror" films. (My list differs some from Scott's list.) I rated them accordingly.

Hah. You know what's funny - I actually told the poll 11:59 so I would be sure not to mess it up, and then I was vaguer here. Fixed.

Agreed. It kind of shocked me that, as a horror fan, there are a few gaps in my viewing. I tried to catch up with what I could but, hey, I at least voted for well more than half of 'em. Woohoo!

The deadline for voting has been extended to January 24, to give you guys a little more time to catch up on horror-watching.

I've only voted a few times, Anna...if I catch up on some films, can I re-take the poll?

Yes. I'll just cancel your earlier vote.
