So I was in the used book store yesterday, and four nicely bound, hardback books caught my eye. Further investigation revealed that they were The First Man In Rome, The Grass Crown, The October Horse, and Antony and Cleopatra by Colleen McCullough, and they were only $5 a piece. I couldn't resist picking them up, but I've never read McCullough before and upon looking her up online, I have to say the artwork on the paperback editions would never have caught my eye.

Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure McCullough was recommended to me by a friend back in the days we were enjoying HBO's Rome series. Has anyone else here read McCullough? If so, how's her English prose?
