I am SO EXCITED you posted this, Jeffrey. I think this album is going to be all kinds of cool.

You can stream the first single, "Make Some Noise," on their home page.

That single is incredible and so is the trailer video. Played the new tune while taking the kiddies to school yesterday and the minivan erupted into absolute mayhem. I'm so happy these guys are back on their game!

Not entirely sure what this is. (Derek Webb posted a link to it on Twitter.) I skipped around the video a bit, and for the most part, it just seems to be a CD player at center court in Madison Square Garden. Something different happens around the 39:25 mark, though.

I think it WAS a live stream of the album... but that was a few days ago, so now there's probably nothing to it. :)

My review.

Love this-- the Beasties reveling in all the things they do best.

This just popped up on one of my feeds. Ugh. Damn shame.

This is a surreal loss, for me-- the Beasties have always personified youthfulness and vigor. The thought of one of them dying it shocking and sobering.

Indeed. I grew up with these guys and their twist on the genre gave permission for spoiled, suburban white kids like me to embrace hiphop. I remember my friend buying some of their early punk 45's around '84 or so and we followed from there to their tour with Madonna to Paul's Boutique and upward to their deserved legendary status. I'm so glad Hotsauce was a return to their former glory-- one final burst. I will sorely miss MCA's sandpaper vox.

I grew up listening to the Beastie Boys but have always been more of an admirer than a real fan. But I'd gotten used to seeing Adam Yauch at film festivals. Musical accomplishments aside, what he's done with Oscilloscope Laboratories has been really remarkable. I don't know if he earned a dime from the project, but Oscilloscope has distributed some amazing films in a really tough indie market, and from everything I know about the company it was directed by Yauch's tastes. A friend tweeted: "Apparently, their m.o. was simple: release movies Adam Yauch loved."

Coldplay covered "Fight for Your Right (To Party)" at the Hollywood Bowl last night.

I was delivering a light board backstage at the Bowl yesterday afternoon, and heard them sound-checking this. Took a moment to realize what song they were performing. Sounded great. Wish I could have seen the show.

Is this Chris's new thing now? Someone dies, so let's cover the most obvious song of theirs as a piano ballad?

(He did this with Amy Winehouse too)

And not to be a jerk, cuz the cover is kinda touching to me, but it's hard not to think of Yauch shifting around in his vault somewhere at the thought of them covering a Beasties tune.

A heartfelt tribute from Tom Erlewine.

Okay, I'll say it. That cover epitomizes everything that sucks about Coldplay.
