Buster Keaton

My family and I were planning on seeing Bob perform this weekend at Heritage Junction in Newhall, where he was going to accompany their showing of Buster Keaton's The General.

What a shame you missed your chance to experience this -- that would have been great. Amazing that he was still able and interested at 96.

"Could we ever know each other in the slightest without the arts?"

« Nous connaîtrions-nous seulement un peu nous-mêmes, sans les arts? »

Quoted on Canada's $20 bill; from Gabrielle Roy's novel La montagne secrète. The English translation, The Hidden Mountain, is by Harry L. Binsse.

We did get to see Bob perform in 2008 at a local showing of Keaton's Seven Chances. We had such a good time at that, that we had been looking for a chance to see him perform again, and this weekend was going to be that opportunity. We'll probably still attend, as there will be a brief memorial for Bob before The General is shown.
