Top 25 Films on Marriage: Voting Now Until Jan 21

Recommended Posts

Click here to begin voting in the Top 25 Films on Marriage poll. We will close the poll on Monday the 21st at 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time, and tabulate as quickly as we can.

Rules:

1) You must fill out your A&F username to begin the poll.
2) Rate each film from 1 to 5, 5 being the highest.
3) There are twenty films on each page. You CAN go backward to change a film's rating while the poll is still unfinished. Once you finish or exit the poll, you cannot change any votes.
4) Your vote will be weighted according to post count, similarly to last year's weighting.
5) You do not have to vote for a film. Your non-vote will be considered a"Haven't Seen It."

Weighting:
· 0- 500 posts will receive a weight of 1
· 500-1000 posts will receive a weight of 2
· 1000-2000 posts will receive a weight of 3
· 2000-3000 will receive a weight of 4
· 3000+ posts will receive a weight of 5

In the meantime, keep advocating what films you believe should make this list here and keep watching important ones so you will have seen them before you vote.

If anybody notices we have the years wrong on any of these, please speak up! I'm sure Jeremy has a better eagle eye than the IMAGE staff - but just in case. Last time we had the wrong year for one of the remakes.

Also, if there is any question about which language a foreign title should be listed in, let's put that here.

eta: oops, it looks like Jeremy already asked that. Obviously my eyes are bad. ;)

Alright, I just put the link up for the poll. If there are still some films you need to see, I would recommend making the effort to see them in the next two weeks before you vote. Once you vote, you can't go back and change anything.

Two more things:

- I'd suggest ending the new last minute nominations so that the Image staff doesn't have to keep adding new films to the list.

- Anna pointed out to me that if we are timely about all of this, and we help out by giving them blurbs for the films after the votes are tabulated promptly, this could go up on the website right around Valentine's Day. Given that it's a list about marriage and all, that could help out with the publicity.

Done. Finis. Over and out. It's been great fun, and I've seen some movies I'd never heard of before, so thanks to all of you.

Having this published in time for Valentine's Day is a FANTASTIC idea, and we really should press ahead and get it done in time. How does the blurb-writing work? Is it the person who nominated the film, or do a few of the most frequent posters gather in an attic room somewhere (plus beers) and knock them all out in one overnight session...?

Anodos: Maybe in the discussion thread you could post thoughts on what you learned/discovered about the films you watched?

I might be able to see one or two of the movies I haven't seen yet....but for the most part I think I'll just be voting for the ones I already nominated or someone else nominated that I've seen.

Seems like with my low post count that my vote doesn't change much anyways. Note that I'm not saying that's unfair, I get why it's done that way.

What about late nominations?

Peter, knowing your great esteem for the film, I certainly want to see The Family Way.

I suppose we're all to blame for not nominating Lucky Life much earlier--but if it doesn't get in the poll somehow, the whole list will be invalidated in my mind.

And--crap. I never realized A Room with a View hadn't been seconded. Phooey.

Oh well. One must respect deadlines, I suppose.

Edit: I'd like to add that I'm extremely grateful to Anna J. and the Image staff for all the work they put into this, and any complaining should be taken lightly or ignored.

Oh, why the hell not, I'll add Room with a View too, just because I like it and I also like nepotism. Heh.

Ok, the survey has been updated with 5 last-minute films.

Taliesin, Anodos, Benchwarmer, John, NBooth, Ryan H., and Jeremy:

To vote on the new nominations, just enter the survey again, put in your A&F username as before, and skip all the questions you already answered. New noms are on the last page. I'll just combine your first vote with your supplemental vote.

Well, I voted. Realized I just don't have the funds, time, or accessibility to any of the films I haven't seen yet.

Huh that's weird, I don't see your name in the responses. Did you put Justin Hanvey as your username or something else?

If we don't get it done before February 14, the Greg will be very sad. Our plan is usually to release the list, with blurbs and fancy new website page, at least two weeks before the Oscars, which are February 24 this year.

Once the winners have been tabulated (I hope to have this done within a day or two of January 21), we post the list here and make a blurb free-for-all. Whoever wants to write it can jump in and claim a film.

The blurbs for Top 25 are very short (2-3 sentences) and should be easy to do. We should have those in by February 1 or thereabouts. So, about a week turnaround. I think the official date is February 4 at the latest.

We should be able to finish the website by February 10 or so. Then y'all can promote the list on your own blogs and websites for a Valentine's Day Special. ;)

Taliesin, It's what I signed up as, but changed my name recently.

Lotsa great movies on that list Rushmore. More and more I realize why I wanna get netflix. Too bad paying for an internet connection just to get Netflix is almost as expensive as cable.

Also when I click on the survey link it takes me straight to the Thank You For Taking This Survey page.
