Darren H
This was an interesting exercise. I limited my top two tiers to 25 total films just to give me a sense of what my own list might look like. The main thing that stands out is how strong a list I could make just from tier 3. It took us a long time to work through the nomination process this go-round, but I think it was time well spent. Of the films I've seen, there was only one, The Passion of the Christ, that would seem out of place on this list. Maybe I missed some conversation about how it qualifies as a memory film? Maybe I missed some conversation about how it qualifies as a memory film? I didn't nominate it, but The Passion is structured around a series of flashbacks, each of which represents a memory of Jesus'. Thanks to its use of these memories/flashbacks (all of which are triggered by point-of-view shots), the film draws the viewer into the flow of Jesus' thoughts. Evan C
I updated my initial post. If anyone wants to persuade me to reconsider any of the films I ranked low, feel free to do so (in the discussions thread). Darren H
Evan, my only comment is . . . please try to see A Moment of Innocence, Syndromes and a Century, and Colossal Youth between now and the voting deadline. They're all Tier 1 for me, and our tastes seem to overlap quite a bit with this list. Edited January 27, 2015 by Darren H Quote Long Pauses
Josh Hamm
My biggest problem with my Tiers is not really the number of films I haven't seen, but how many of the Top Tier films I haven't had a chance to see; so even though there isn't much time between now and the voting deadline, I plan on catching up with as many of those films as possible in the next few days. Christian
I need to do tiers myself, but I pretty endorse Ryan's, with a couple of exceptions. I'll try to give this some more thought soon. John Drew
This pretty much will reflect my voting. The top two tiers are locked in. Some wiggle room with the rest. There are quite few films in the list that I've seen, but are not reflected in these tiers due to time this morning. I've seen just over half the films that made the final list (which is a lot better than last year). I might be able to squeeze in a couple more by tomorrow night when I submit my vote. Christian
Can we add a Working Tier category for future lists along the lines of "Saw It but Can't Remember It Well Enough to Classify It," or maybe just "Need to Rewatch"? Such a category would've fit several titles on this list.
