Over the Rhine's double-album is the most beautiful record I've heard this year, with The Innocence Mission's "Befriended" and Daniel Lanois' "Shine" not far behind.

But THIS is the most inventive, creative, dangerous rock and roll record I've heard so far this year. People You Meet is a very young band, but man, this record rocks like Pavement-meets-Elliott Smith-meets-The Beatles. They grew up as musicians and singer/songwriters in Nashville, and have moved to Seattle to get started. Great harmonies, songs that take turns so sharp you can hear the tires squeal, challenging lyrics, and a range that runs between quiet folk-pop to "Mother" (that maddening Andy Summers number on "Synchronicity").

God bless the label that signs these guys.

You heard it hear first. And when they get some mp3s up, then you'll REALLY hear it here first.

P.S.  I COULD BE WRONG.

MP3s are now up at my site.

I think you have to save them to your hard drive and THEN play them, because I can't get them to automatically play.
