Star Wars: Rogue One

Recommended Posts

I couldn't get through it a second time. So boring, grim, overcrowded, and derivative in ways big and small. This is the first Star Wars film that I'm confident I won't watch a third time.

This week, I had a conversation with a high school student about The Force Awakens and Rogue One. He said he enjoyed the former much more than the latter (a sentiment I agree with), but he couldn't pinpoint exactly why he had this preference, apart from his appreciation of the nostalgic tone of TFA. When I asked him to name the characters from TFA, he mentioned Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, and the classic characters like Han and Chewbacca (no mention of Poe). When I asked him to recall characters from RO, he couldn't name a single character. However, he did remember the CGI Tarkin (although he couldn't recall the character's name). Of course, this is anecdotal, but I do think it's somewhat indicative of the differences between the two films.
