Acquiring a Film License

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any advice on how to acquire a film license? A couple people from my church have discussed hosting a movie discussion night, and I was wondering if anyone here knew the best way to get a film license.

I've never heard of Church Video License, Inc., but that looks really interesting, and if it's legit, it's a bargain.

A friend and I have launched a microcinema here in Knoxville, and one of our lesser goals is to talk publicly about the importance of paying artists/distributors for their work. There are a number of places around town that not only show films illegally, they advertise those events. We don't want to become the screening police, but we're working hard to raise money through sponsorships and donations so that we can pay appropriate rental fees to distributors. And it's hard to do.

All of which is to say . . . thanks, Evan, for doing the right thing!

CVLI is legit. It's a break out from CCLI, which many church uses to license songs. Not all films are covered by CVLI. You need to check the list of companies that are included.

Thanks for that link, Darrel. CVLI will work great for what we're trying to do.
