Oscars 2016: Best Screenplay (Original)

Recommended Posts

The Writers Guild Award nominees:

  • Bridge of Spies, Written by Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen; DreamWorks Pictures
  • Sicario, Written by Taylor Sheridan; Lionsgate
  • Spotlight, Written by Josh Singer & Tom McCarthy; Open Road Films
  • Straight Outta Compton, Screenplay by Jonathan Herman and Andrea Berloff; Story by S. Leigh Savidge & Alan Wenkus and Andrea Berloff; Universal Pictures
  • Trainwreck, Written by Amy Schumer; Universal Pictures

I believe this guild only nominates its own members, so there are a lot of Oscar-contending scripts that weren't even considered for the WGA award.

The winner will be announced February 13.

It bums me out that there doesn't seem to be any way to add polls to existing threads in the current version of the board, but oh well.

The nominees for the Oscar are (with the ones I've seen in bold):

  • Bridge of Spies
  • Ex Machina
  • Inside Out
  • Spotlight
  • Straight Outta Compton
So, three of the WGA nominees, plus Ex Machina and Inside Out.

And the winner is... Spotlight, which *is* nominated for the Oscar.
