Dark Matter

Recommended Posts

This sci-fi show just showed up on Netflix (Canada) a week ago. I finished the first season today, the second season is due to premiere later this summer. Given the general dearth of sci-fi on TV these days, I found it enjoyable. Not amazing, but it has a good blend of being episodic while also having a continual storyline. It reminds me of Firefly, but without the humour and snappy dialogue.

He finds no mercy

And he's lost in the crowd

With an armoured heart of metal

He finds he's running out of odd-numbered daisies

From which to pull the petals

Definitely a Firefly influence on this show, but--as you say--the writing isn't outstanding. Similar series that aired back to back with Dark Matter on SyFy in the US is Killjoys, about a band of space bounty-hunters, with various secrets in their pasts. I think it was originally Canadian, too, so you might look for it on Netflix.

There is this difference between the growth of some human beings and that of others: in the one case it is a continuous dying, in the other a continuous resurrection. (George MacDonald, The Princess and Curdie)

Isn't narrative structure enough of an ideology for art? (Greg Wright)
