Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice (2019)

Recommended Posts

This documentary is delightful, and I've spent a week or so going into awards season thinking about how strange it is that we tend to privilege dark and pessimistic documentaries over those that have uplift. It's almost as though we are conditioned to not believe positive stories.

There was a lot I didn't know about Ronstadt, including that the Eagles were actually formed when Glen Frey and Don Henley met playing for Ronstadt's concert tour, that she was an early promoter of Emmylou Harris, and that she was the first female artist to release four consecutive platinum albums. I found her love for what she was doing to be truly infectious, and I recommend this as a feel good documentary that is generous with performance clips.

I have been looking forward to seeing this, in any case, because I have been a big fan of Linda Ronstadt, but it's good to read that the documentary is a strong tribute. She's amazing, and it's sad that her voice has been lost to us too soon.
