The Directors Guild nominees:

Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2019

  • Bong Joon Ho, Parasite
  • Sam Mendes, 1917
  • Martin Scorsese, The Irishman
  • Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood
  • Taika Waititi, Jojo Rabbit

Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director for 2019

  • Mati Diop, Atlantics
  • Alma Har'el, Honey Boy
  • Melina Matsoukas, Queen & Slim
  • Joe Talbot, The Last Black Man in San Francisco
  • Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz, The Peanut Butter Falcon

Note: three female nominees in the first-time category but none in the main category. Also, three of the nominations are for films with black protagonists, while the other two are for films starring Shia Labeouf named after common sandwich ingredients (honey, peanut butter).

The winners will be announced January 25.

Also, note: the Oscars disagreed with the DGA on one of its positions, giving Todd Phillips the spot that the DGA gave to Taika Waititi.
