Has anyone else read works by this poet and fiction writer? I'm not an avid reader of poetry, but to me, he brings a poet's deftness with words to his prose works. The Great World has stayed with me, even a dozen years after I first read it, as a luminescent depiction of the lives of 2 survivors of the Bataan Death March, as well as those around them. It's not at all a grim book, despite its subject matter, but it has challenged me as to how I see the world and live within it.

To be an artist is never to avert one's eyes.
